Ceremonial Cacao – Ruk’u’x Ulew

This is chocolate in its most pure, naked form. Known as “food of the Gods” by the ancient Greeks, cacao is a plant medicine used for thousands of years by many cultures, particularly the Mayans, Aztecs and Olmecs.

This criollo cacao is grown on a small organic farm in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, then lovingly prepared by the Ruk’u’x Ulew (Heart of the Earth) Mayan womens collective in Lake Atitlan. Find out more about Ruk’u’x Ulew here. The cacao beans are fermented in small batches, sun dried, lightly roasted over a wood fire, then peeled by hand.
